Custom Norton Commando Wiring Diagram (Nile Newton)

Facebook group member Nile Newton asked the question about how he could wire his bike in to not have a battery.

It turns out that he’s got a 71 Commando, and has replaced his zener and rectifier with a Tympanium combined regulator/rectifier.

It is 100% possible to run without a battery, however in this scenario, it is ESSENTIAL that you retain the capacitor, and that it is in good working order.

Here is a picture of Nile’s project bike:

But wait…

After chatting with Nile, it’s turned out that he would find it useful to have an overview of just the ignition circuit, and nothing else electrical.

So here is the same diagram, but showing the points only.

Note, that I have retained the Master Switch (ignition switch) purely so you can cut the engine.
